'Mum knows best' - The importance of accessorizing...

When I was a teenager I would constantly grumble to my parents about having nothing to wear - My mother always responded
by saying the same thing "All you need is a good pair of
jeans and a crisp white tshirt" of course at time I thought
this was ridiculous, I wanted tie die dresses,
union jack prints and Dr Martins(I was going through teenage hippy/Geri from the spice girls stage, an odd combination yes,
but isn't that what being 14 is all about!)

But as the years have gone on I have found my daily 'uniform' seems to consist of my mum's wisdom, a combination of decent jeans and good quality t-shirts.
Of course I have vamped it up a little to put my own personality and whatever 'style' mood I may be in that day by adding a
choice of my favourite accessories, but it does seem to be becoming a consistent combination of the same things,
my trusty skinny jeans and a 'various' shade of soft, quality stretcht-shirt ('Yaya' and 'Fransa' are great for these) a pretty pair
of (comfy-work on my feet all day) pumps, a favourite necklace
or scarf, a chunky bangle or cuff and a blazer (my favourite this season has to be my classic soft oatmeal cotton stretch blazer from Sandwich) and my over sized floppy leather handbag.

So it would appear that 'mum does know best', it's a classic look that has been worn in its own shape and form for decades. But be careful, worn alone the jeans and t-shirt combo can
look a little dull, you simply HAVE to accessorise,
you can instantly update your look and make it bang on trend
with your choice of necklace or scarf, an armful of bangles
 and a statement handbag,
(And on days that you want to pretend your a celebrity you MUST wear over sized sunglasses)

Experiment with your accessorizing,
you can be brave and bold with your choices as you
are working with such an neutral base.

Express your personalty, create your own trend and style...
And most importantly have fun with your fashion!

'Am I to old for leggings???'...

As the manager of a Fashion Boutique I am often asked
by my customers 'am I too old for leggings?'
Each time I categorically answer with ‘absolutely not!’

Leggings are an absolute ‘must have’ in every woman’s wardrobe.
I have customers of all ages ranging from fabulous and flirty 30's to sophisticated and snazzy 70's year old's and they have all looked fabulous in there leggings. They really are suitable for all ages, shapes and sizes,
you just have to make sure that you follow
 this simple set of rules...

Rule 1 - (And absolutely the most important!) Leggings must always be worn underneath a long top, tunic or dress, your bottom should NEVER be exposed in leggings! They are not a trouser substitute.

Rule 2 - Avoid printed styles, Zebra print, Aztec and Floral's, these should be saved for the teenagers.

Rule 3 - Don't combine your leggings with stilettos, You are not Sandy from Grease, leggings look great with ballet pumps and boots.

Rule 4 - If wearing leggings and pumps do not wear socks (seems obvious but I have seen some women do this!)

Rule 5 - Choose the right size, too tight and they will show every lump and bump, too loose and you will end up with baggy knees.

Rule 6 - Invest in the best quality leggings that you can afford. Certain stores sell leggings for less than five pounds, these will become see-through, misshape and go baggy – never a good look!

Find the right pair and your leggings can take your trusted wardrobe favourites right through the seasons, that tunic that you lived in during the cooler months with your thick black tights and chunky boots can be enjoyed through the summer season by combining it with cropped leggings in a soft muted summery colour and a cute pair of pumps.

Another little tip that may be useful in our unpredictable British climate is to keep a pair of leggings rolled up in your handbag. If you leave the house in a summer dress
and the weather takes a turn for the worse simply pop your leggings on under your dress, you will look
‘bang on trend’ whilst keeping your pins snug!

Leggings have been a long-running fashion trend
that shows no sign of stopping, Give them a try...
They look and feel great on everyone!
